We are a small business committed to global social and economic change through fair trade. We believe that by providing consumers with the opportunity to purchase beautifully crafted, fair trade products made by producers from around the world who receive a fair wage for their work, we are empowering both the consumer and the producer to support an alternative, sustainable economy.
We are located in the Washington Heights neighborhood in Milwaukee and opened our doors in 2006 after a group of local advocates involved in the anti-sweatshop movement successfully pushed for change in the purchasing policy of our city’s schools. Doing business as Four Corners of the World, the Southeastern Wisconsin Initiative for Fair Trade (SWIFT) began its exciting journey of working for peace by achieving justice through fair trade.
Today, we carry hundreds of stylish, hand-made fair trade and eco-friendly products from over 25 countries that include coffee, chocolate, clothing and scarves, toys for kids, jewelry, and a variety of unique items for your home. We believe that every purchase can really make a difference.
Not only do we think that selling fair trade, eco-friendly products is the right thing for both people and planet but we think educating the public on fair trade and its impact is too! Over the years, our education committee has developed a variety of resources to teach about fair trade and has presented in many classrooms and to groups locally. We have a film library and Speakers’ Bureau. All of these efforts contributed to being named Best Education Program by the Fair Trade Federation in 2010.
We are members of the Fair Trade Federation, Green America, Local First Milwaukee, and the Milwaukee Fair Trade Coalition. We believe in working with these communities to help promote the common good.
We know that every purchase you make has the possibility of making a difference in the world. So we invite you to join us… shop fair trade and shop Four Corners of the World!
